The transport, care, and handling of each 12 foot long timber.

Details:

Founded in 1892, the Sierra Club has been working to protect communities, wild places, and the planet itself. They are the largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States. Their founder, John Muir, appears on the back of the California quarter.

SierraSpace is a new reception for the Sierra Club headquarters. The architect designed the lobby desk using reclaimed Douglas fir timbers, in which they inserted native Northern California plants. Stainless steel wraps the transaction counter down to the work surface to protect the large timbers. LED ribbons illuminate the organic reveals and cracks in the timbers, while also providing low-voltage lighting for the space. Accents from the LED rain drop pendants supplements the sun filled space. The custom mural behind the desk is of one of Sierra Club founder’s favorite places, the Yosemite Valley.

Julie assists with project start-ups by requesting insurance certificates and MSDS sheets, making sure that they are received in a timely fashion and meet not only RN Field’s requirements but the Buildings. She works with subcontractors to get submittals at the early stage of a project and sends them to the Architects for review and approval. Julie maintains project files for the project managers she works with, making sure all paperwork is filed in a timely manner and readily available for the project manager. At the close of a project, Julie requests and compiles all required closeout documents.

When Julie is not at RN Field, she can be found at her part time job in the retail industry. Julie is actively involved in Leap Art in Education and the American Lung Association. She is a committee member for the Leap Sandcastle Contest where she helps plan and organize the largest Amateur Sandcastle Contest in Northern California.

Founded in 1914 as a railroad bridge design firm, HNTB now provides a full range of services beyond civil engineering, architecture, planning and construction management.
With their expanding capabilities and offices across the nation HNTB outgrew their Oakland office and relocated to their new 23,000SF space at 1111 Broadway.

Design coordination between multiple HNTB offices in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Los Angeles allowed for a high level finish even with a modest budget. Reusing the existing ceiling and adding specialty lighting to select areas allowed for a welcoming reception.

The fully glazed board room flanks the reception and penetrates it with day light and views of the city center. Three new heat pumps were provided to cool the open plan space.

Marla brings many years of experience from Sales and Property Management to her position as Project Coordinator. Her eleven years of experience as a Project Coordinator combined with her sales and property management background provides a unique blend of detail work and exceptional client service. Each project has its challenges and with this comes new learning opportunities. Marla believes it’s important to treat all individuals on a project from the security guard to the janitor with dignity and respect. She takes great pride in being a good liaison between the superintendent, project manager and client.

In her spare time, Marla puts in a good twenty plus hours a week volunteering at fourteen different Non-Profit organizations throughout the greater San Francisco bay area. She has always been an advocate for the so called “underdog” and finds great pleasure helping others. When not volunteering, Marla is planning future international travels or toiling away in her garden. She always imagines living six months out of the year in Greece and exploring the islands on her little scooter.

Many two weeks later she continues to be a critical part of the team as an exceptional liaison between superintendents, project managers and clients. Lisa’s proactive approach to work, accountability and friendly nature is essential to her team’s success and client vendor relations.

In addition to her day job Lisa has “flipped” real estate with her husband, manages her families’ properties and is an active member of her local mom’s club. She enjoys pilates, sports, chasing after her 20-month old son, gardening and trading stocks.

Burnham & Brown is more rooted in Oakland’s civic and architectural history than any other firm, and can trace the practice back to 1899. While wanting to stay in the 32,500 SF space they occupied in the early 1980’s Burnham & Brown was ready for a new look.

Their refresh was an occupied multi-phase, multi-floor renovation including a new conferencing center, reception area and IT/Server Room. New office fronts with cherry doors, new ceilings with specialty lighting, and new finishes throughout including the elevator lobby bring them into the new millennium. Breathtaking views of Lake Merritt are experienced from every conference room.
