Demobilizing for concerts and events
We’ve worked at HP Pavilion for 15 years. It’s the 7th busiest event center in the world and the 3rd busiest in the states. It’s like a home away from home and we’re proud to be selected as part of the design team. Among many interesting projects, we structurally improved the load capacity of the roof assembly by reinforcing the structural beams. This was necessary due to the increasing size of concerts and events and the new 45-ton scoreboard, the largest west of the Mississippi.
All work was performed in two-man buckets via 135-foot JLG man-lifts. We had as many as 7 operating and were required to breakdown and re-mobilize 13 times in 8 weeks for scheduled concerts and events. The real challenge came, however, when we worked until midnight and had to break down the entire project and move out by 5 a.m. The concert crews would mobilize and prep for their concert, the concert would take place and we would re-mobilize by 5 a.m. the following morning. No glitches allowed! The new scoreboard and audio/video control room were up and running on opening night for the 2007-08 Sharks Season. Go Sharks!!
